How to choose a colored diamond (Fancy Color Diamond)?

Fancy Color diamonds are a world apart in the diamond industry. Indeed, there are a multitude of color combinations for this category of diamonds. For example, a yellow diamond can have a single hue (Fancy Yellow or Fancy Vivid Yellow) or a combination of hues (Fancy Greenish Yellow or Fancy Yellow Brownish).

It is more difficult to calculate the price of a colored diamond because there are no price lists like the Rapaport (for colorless diamonds). The price of colored diamonds is therefore established on other criteria, such as the rarity of the diamond's color, the intensity of the color, its weight, its cut shape, etc.

If you want to buy a Laboratory Grown Diamond, you will pay it 3 to 10 times cheaper than a mined diamond. You can also purchase a Fancy Color Laboratory Grown Diamond, you will pay it 10 to 500 times cheaper than a mined colored diamond. Lab Created Diamond is a man-made diamond, it is a diamond that has the same properties physical, chemical and optical than mined diamond.

How should you proceed to choose your colored diamond?

Here are some tips for choosing a diamond correctly:

1. The first thing to do is to determine the color of the diamond you want to buy. There are diamonds of all colors:

4. We advise you to choose the cut shape of the diamond. For technical reasons (related to the cut), there are more radiant or cushion shape diamonds for colored diamonds. This type of cut shape helps to better intensify the color of the diamond. When you want to buy a colored diamond: what is most important? Of course the tint of the diamond.
5. It is recommended that you choose a diamond that is certified by the GIA. This gemological laboratory is the most reliable laboratory for the appraisal of colored diamonds and it has the most experience in this field.
6. The clarity grade of colored diamonds is secondary. This is not one of the main criteria. The clarity grade has little influence on the price of colored diamonds
7. The cut grade of colored diamonds is not one of the main criteria either. Indeed, the diamantaire when he cuts the rough diamond, will privilege the intensity of the color to the detriment of the proportions of the stone. What matters most is that the shade of the diamond is as pronounced as possible once the diamond has been cut.
