It is necessary to use a special gemological tool (like the GIA iD100®) in order to detect a Lab Grown diamond. It is impossible to see with the eye the difference between a natural diamond and a lab created diamond, as they are identical: the 2 have the same fires, the same brilliance and the same sparkle.
We sell on our website natural diamonds as well Laboratory Grown diamonds, they are all certified by the most renowned gemological laboratories in the world (GIA, HRD and IGI). It is these laboratories that guarantee that the diamond is natural (mined) or Lab Grown. Certificate number is laser engraved on the girdle of the stone, so it is not possible to confuse a Laboratory Grown diamond with a mined diamond: traceability is ensured and guaranteed. Our eyes light up at the sight, not only of gold, but also of precious stones, especially diamonds!
The diamond is undoubtedly the most impressive and dazzling stone. Its radiance is eternal and its physical properties are unique and exceptional.
Diamonds are the result of a long natural process. It is the hardest mineral in the world. They are mainly found on continents where there have been no major geological activities for a long time.
Over billions of years, diamonds come out of the depths. The extraction of this gemstone is extremely expensive. Resources are very limited and the demand is constantly increasing, especially in rich countries. Unfortunately, diamond mining has fueled armed conflicts in many African countries for decades.
To put an end to the forced exploitation of men, many regulations have been put in place. Among which the Kimberley Process. Scientists have also succeeded in developing new technologies that make it possible to create diamonds in a laboratory in a sealed chamber. We thus speak of a "Lab Grown Diamond", "Lab Created Diamond", "Laboratory Grown Diamond" or "Cultured Diamond".
We speak of Lab Grown Diamond when the manufacturing process takes place in a laboratory where all the parameters are controlled (temperature, pressure, purity, etc.).
Mined diamond is called "natural" because it originates in the deep layers of the earth's crust. Diamond synthesis is a complex operation. The first tests took place at early 19th century.
It was not until the late 1950s that scientists managed to create the first cultured diamond. The first were intended for industry (presence of imperfections).
It was not until the 1990s that the first gem-quality Lab Created Diamond for jewelry appeared. These diamonds did not begin to gain popularity until the late 2010s. Today, more than 6% of the diamonds sold on the planet come from Cultured Diamond.
The term "synthetic" can be confusing and suggests that this type of diamond is "fake". However, it is only a denomination to make the difference between the Lab Created Diamond and the Mined Diamond.
"How do you grow diamonds in a lab?" You have certainly asked yourself this question!
Enormous technological progress has allowed us to recreate favorable conditions for the crystallization of carbon. Synthesized diamonds find applications in many fields. There are two techniques manufacturing of Lab Grown diamonds in a sealed chamber:
Diamonds, whether natural or Lab Grown, have the same physico-chemical and optical properties!
Impossible to distinguish, with the naked eye or under a microscope, between a mined diamond and a Lab Grown Diamond. Only a few gemological laboratories are equipped with powerful devices that allow determine the origin of the stone.
Laboratory Grown Diamond are now accompanied by a gemstone certification which specifies the manufacturing technique used.
Unlike natural diamonds, cultured diamonds are of high purity and have very few flaws / signs of deformation. These gemstones are made under well controlled conditions.
In short, without the necessary tools, even experts are unable to tell the difference between natural diamonds and Lab Grown Diamond.
“Lab-created diamonds are grown in a lab, but their quality, strength, optical finish, and physical and chemical properties are absolutely identical to those of natural diamonds, which have grown over millions of years underground, characteristics of real diamonds. - IGI, International Gemological Institute
“Why buy a Lab-Grown diamond, rather than a natural diamond? » Lab-created diamonds are not fake gems or imitations. They have the same physical, chemical and optical properties than a mined diamond.
Cultured diamonds are also valued according to the 4Cs (color, carat, cut, clarity), which guarantee the quality and uniqueness of a diamond.
Lab-Created Diamonds have many advantages:
The choice of a diamond, whether natural or lab-grown, is never random! As with traditional diamonds, called natural diamonds, you must base yourself on the 4Cs (color, carat, cut, clarity).
We invite you to read our advice for buying a diamond.
We also invite you to consult our colored natural diamonds certified GIA, HRD or IGI.
